Business, community leaders debate how to fund convention center expansion: Slideshow

If there was one thing that was clear from the Milwaukee Business Journal’s recent Flash Forum on the possibility of enacting a sales tax to fund a convention center expansion in Milwaukee, it was that it will not be easy. Check out the attached slideshow to see who attended the important discussion.

“There is no doubt that this will be a tough task, but it is important to the future of our community,” said Omar Shaikh, chair of Visit Milwaukee and co-owner of SURG Restaurant Group.

Shaikh was joined on the panel by Greg Marcus, president and CEO of The Marcus Corp., Greater Milwaukee Committee president Julia Taylor and State Rep. Evan Goyke (D-Milwaukee). The panel was following up on a spirited discussion at a Business Journal Downtown CEO Roundtable Jan. 26 where prominent real estate, restaurant and hotel executives joined the call for such a local sales tax of between 0.5 percent and 2 percent.
